need help converting midi into audio
Hi everyone,
I can't seem to convert data from my midi track into audio. The way i remember doing it is playing the midi track whilst simultaneously recording on an audio track. however, no sound gets recorded onto the audio track. i have had this issue about 3 years ago which was the last time i played with midi, and i just can't remember how i figured it out. the other thing is every time i click on the audio track the midi track automatically mutes. are these issues something to do with the inputs/outputs i have it set on or something else. i know this is really simple but i would appreciate any bit of help. thank you so much for taking the time to read this. Re: need help converting midi into audio
On the surface, it sounds like you're not bussing the audio output of the MIDI device to the audio input of the audio track. You'd also need to record arm both the MIDI/Instrument and Audio tracks.

Re: need help converting midi into audio
thanks mate,
just tried that and theres only one output path on my midi track, which is my mbox, port 1, channel 1, 2 etc. ive tried with different channels on my mbox. in regards to arming both the tracks at once, if i do this then it records over the midi track as it plays - i don't see how this can work. thanks again |

Re: need help converting midi into audio
What MIDI sound module are you using? How do you have it connected?

Re: need help converting midi into audio
Yes, I already checked out the picture, but you didn't say how you have the audio outputs of the xstation connected to your Digidesign hardware.
From looking at the picture, you need to make sure that the audio outputs of the xstation are connected to inputs 1-2 of your digidesign hardware.

Re: need help converting midi into audio
thanks dude,
so is that a setting on the xstation i need to change or do you mean actually physically check the cable connection. By the way at the moment i am not using any software synths etc, just the sounds straight from the xstation. |

Re: need help converting midi into audio
You still haven't answered my question; How do you have it connected currently?
You mentioned a MIDI cable but no other connections. You should have a MIDI cable from your Digi hardware to the xstation (which it appears that you do), and two audio cables going from the xstation audio outputs to the Digi hardware audio inputs.

Re: need help converting midi into audio
sorry man, yeah i have a midi cable and a stereo jack connection going from the synth to the mbox. still doesn't seem to be working. im gonna just keep playing around and hopefully i'll figure it out. the midi cable is going "out" from the xstation and "in" to the mbox. is this correct? pretty sure thats how it should be.
