Default Mute during auto touch? in 6.9

I'm sure I'm just overlooking something. But the mute function during auto touch automation is only works if you hold down the mute button (either by surface or mouse) once you let go it un mutes.

Where is the preferece setting for this. I've never run into this situation.

I have looked in the what's new, but maybe i'm overlooking it

Any suggestions,
Thanks

There is no preference setting for this. Here's why we changed the behavior.

There were several goals in improving mute automation in Pro Tools 6.9 - eliminate the "pops" during playback, make it behave more predictably, and eliminate the need for the user to edit mutes "offline" - allowing real-time editing and writing of mutes in all situations.

In previous versions of Pro Tools, there were a few problems -

1) There was no way to easily overwrite or adjust mute on or off events in real-time without changing the state of the mute. The result was that the user had to do a lot of their mute automation "off-line," manually.

2) Writing with "switched" controls (on plug-ins also) would cause unexpected changes "downstream" in the session. Here's a scenario -
-In a previous version of Pro Tools, make a blank track, write a "mute on" 2 minutes into the session, and a "mute off" 3 minutes into the session.
-Now, go back to the front of a session, and in real-time, write a "mute on," then stop the transport at 10 seconds-
Result - the track ends up being muted all the way to 3 minutes. (note that if this behavior is desired in Pro Tools 6.9, you can now use "write to next breakpoint").

In order to prevent this default behavior, and introduce a way to overwrite and adjust mutes in real time, we gave "switched" controls a behavior similar to "dynamic" controls (such as faders and knobs).

So now, if you write a mute in real-time, and then hit "stop" - the mute state reverts to the existing state, leaving "downstream" automation states safe.

Since we changed the behavior for all switched controls, "touch" now behaves more like a fader - you have to keep your finger on it to write. But because of other improvements to latch mode (AutoMatch and AutoJoin), the user can now work in latch mode most of the time - and use "touch" mode for "touchups."

Back to issue #1 - Here's how the overwrite/adjust feature works -
While recording automation, hold down the command key before pressing a mute button. This will not change the mute state, but it will overwrite upcoming events. When you stop (or AutoMatch out), it then reverts to the underlying state. With this feature, it's possible to adjust existing mute on and mute off points (and erase mute events) in real time. "Touch" mode now allows you to do this with a great deal of accuracy.

Although we do realize that the "touch" behavior may take a little getting used to, mute automation is now far more useable and flexible than it was before
