Hardware and compatibility with PT 12
Hello,
I'm searching the knowledge base but cannot find info. about what are the minimum computer requirements to run the latest version of PT 12.? I have PT 8 with a Digi003 rack. Will the Digi003 be compatible with the latest version of PT 12 or must I use another interface? I'm interested to buy a permanent license not annual renewals. What Mac laptops or desktops would you recommend? Please provide links if necessary to answer these questions. Thanks, Grateful Last edited by grateful; 11-30-2017 at 01:18 PM. Re: Hardware and compatibility with PT 12
My 003 console is still working flawlessly with the newest version of Pro Tools (be sure to install the most recent drivers). As others will suggest, it's a good idea to save the installers for older PT versions as we're bound to loose 003 compatibility eventually. I'm on Mac OS 10.12.6.

Re: Hardware and compatibility with PT 12
Back to the question on computer specs, for Mac, stick with an i7 quad-core and at least 16GB of RAM. Anything lower and you will outgrow it too soon(just my opinion) The iMacs are nice, but I would lean toward the 27"(I'd rather buy a refurbed 27" over a new 21.5"). Re Macbook Pro, my preference would be the 15" as the 13" is just too small a screen to work on(but my rigs run 27", 32" and 43" screens). A thunderbolt to firewire adapter should keep the old 003 going for a while, but the laptops are short on USB ports, and hubs are a bit of a crap shoot(definitely get a powered hub).

Re: Hardware and compatibility with PT 12
Thanks for your answers. I have two remaining questions which have not yet been fully answered.
1. Since I have a Digi003 Rack that will only be supported by PT12.7.1 or earlier, can I now get a 12.7.1 version? 2. Since I have PT 8 I imagine I will not be able to upgrade to PT12 but will need to buy it as if I never had PT. The website is confusing regarding annual renewal licenses vs. permanent licenses. Can someone please provide a link and clarify this? Thank you, Grateful Last edited by grateful; 12-01-2017 at 01:03 PM. Reason: misspelled word |
