Default ProTools HD 7.4 - Dual G5 2Ghz (PCI) Mac

Hi all, I was wondering if anyone can share with me their experiences with this... We have a Dual G5 2Ghz (PCI) Mac. It's running PT HD 7.4 and has the HD Core card and two HD Accel cards. The Mac is running 3GB of RAM (Max is only 4GB). For anyone familiar with this system all three of its PCI slots are in use. This presents an issue as we need to install a PCI eSata card to make use of an eSata RAID hard drive tower.

I am wondering how much of a hit in performance will we see if we take one of the HD Accel cards out? I know the core card by itself will support 96 tracks and we've never actually gone past 40 as far as I know.

Just load up your biggest session and look at system usage and see if your using the 3rd card.

I have the same G5 - max is 8GB RAM. Highly recommend maxing it out - it's cheap too!

Regarding system usage - you'll have to assess what you've been using in the past and make decisions from there. You could always add an expansion chassis.

Best,

Greg

Are you sure about it being 8GB max? When I looked at the Everymac.com site, it lists the max on this Mac as only 4GB. It only has four ram slots.

I have the same mac, I have 7GB of RAM in it... the max is 8. They make 2GB sticks. I bought Kingston from New Egg. Cheap too.

Yep, 8GB Max. 4 slots --> 2GB sticks in each slot. I put kingston in mine as well - from Newegg. Have never had a problem.
