Default Reason/redrum as Plug-in

We are learning how to use Reason for drum tracks in our studio. However, we are using it as a standalone piece of software. We create our drum track in Reason, select the tempo, the mix, the pattern, etc., then export to an audio file, then import as a wav file in Pro Tools 11. If the tempo or mix is wrong, or it needs any tweaking, then back we go to the Reason drawing board.
There is a better way, and we've seen it on a friends' computer, that is, Reason/Rewire accessible as an instrument plug-in. But we don't know how to do it, and the friend doesn't remember how he got there either.
So, just how do we acheive this efficiency?

I think I go over that in this video, can't remember exactly (it was over a year ago) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q25x3LDQdao

Basically, just choose Reason from your plugin insert in PT and make sure the routing is correct.

Well, we would like to do it that way, but Reason/Redrum do not appear as an instrument choice. I guess I didn't make it very clear that though Reason is installed on our computer and is up and running, Pro Tools is unaware. How do we make Pro Tools handshake with Reason ? Hoping your video will tell me.

What version of Reason are you using?

You wouldn't see Redrum as an instrument choice on a PT instrument track in any case. You'd only see Reason. Redrum is an instrument you'd bring up in your Reason rack.

But if you're not seeing Reason as an instrument choice...that's a different issue. You might try uninstalling and reinstalling Reason and see if that shows it in the instrument track as an instrument option. Also, if you're using a 64bit version of PT ( I assume you are) then make sure you've got a 64bit version of Reason installed. I believe it was with Reason 7 that it went 64bit. If you're running a 32bit version, then you probably wouldn't see it as an option on a PT instrument track.

Brian, Nice video. I noticed as you quickly scrolled through your Reason rack in the video that you had some Combinator set-ups "Divinity" and "Pray"...maybe a couple others like that. May I ask what those are? I don't recall seeing those before in any of the Refills I've seen. Are these yours? What are they like? Are they available for purchase/download? Just curious!

Those were guitar amp presets I made to demo some of the Line6 amps in Reason 7. I'm not sure if I have those presets on hand or not.

Sweet. No worries...I don't really do much with elec guitars here, and I have enough virtual amps as it is. Your design looked cool, though!

That's your problem. You are running a 64 bit version of Pro Tools and a 32 bit version of Reason.

If you have Pro Tools 10, try using Reason 6 with that version of PT, or upgrade your version of Reason to 7 or 8.
