Yeah I think it's the only way.
I would add one more thing...
When you consolidate your track under Cubase make them all start at zero.Otherwise it will be a real pain in the arse to realign all the tracks in Protools, even more if it was a free performance (no click).
Then when you import them into Protools you'll just have to import as new tracks and everything will be synchronized.

If there are some tempo changes you have to write them on a note and enter it in Protools manually (for editions goals). If there's another way to export a tempo map let me know cause I'm really interested.

Hope it helps

Highlight each track all the way back to the start(which SHOULD be time 00:00:000)

I've had a similar situation. I had exported the cubase sessions as an OMF then imported the OMF to PT.. works fine.. All regions edited and nonedited are in place..

This is another way to do it - it's a bit better as you get regions exactly where they were in the original session.

However it does require that you own DigiTranslator to be able to import the OMF into Pro Tools.

I would also suggest making a note of the positions of the left and right locators in C4 before export, so that you don`t miss out on anything after you recieve them. In addition to this it`ll be good to also have an indication of the tempo so that collaboration is more fun.
