Updated list of Intel chipset ?
Hey,
I have been using PT since version 5 and I am currently using PT8 with an MBox mini. My Dell XPS M1710 recently died and I'm building a new desktop from scratch to run PT on. I have not read the DUC for some time and I find it very hard to find details about compatible chipsets. (I have to say the search function in the DUC really sucks ) Surely, it cannot be too much asking too much to have an official updated list of supported chipset, can it??? I'm thinking of buying an Gigabyte GA-P55A-UD4P mobo (Intel P55 chipset). Has anyone been using one with PT successfully? Cheers guys. |

Best desktops for PTLE - the sticky above has all you need to know, plus there are people here who will tell you everything. Just start reading from about January 1 2009 (a year ago) - or whenever PT8 and the i9 came together. The current fave is the i9 from Intel. You can go with the less expensive model - costs under $300, there is not much to be gained from a faster processor according to tests, although overclocking is popular, with about 4 GB ram. Altogether, with two (or three if you have samples) internal hard drives it should cost you about $800. I am not sure if people are recommending Win7 32 or 64-bit, or sticking with XP. XP 32-bit seems to have the fewest challenges but I will let the pros here weigh in on that.

Re: Updated list of Intel chipset ?
Well, what's Digi support doing?
It can't be that hard to do some internal compatibility tests or if they can't be bothered, read the successful configurations posted by users and keep an xls doco updated, can it??? Thanks for your reply but I am really disappointed by the lack of clear communication by Digi. We pay a lot of $$ for their products and they last we can expect is for it to work. Come Digi, it's 2010. Keep up!!! Who buys 915 chipsets anymore? |
