Holy ....! How embarrassing, please help!!!
Hi DUC community. I had quite the embarrassing occurrence today: last night a client came in and tracked a full song. We tracked it and we must have listened back to it about 15 times after he was done. Today, he comes back so we can start mixing. I open the session in PT and we press play, and all of a sudden the music (and vocals) is sped up by at least 20 bpm!!! What the hell???? Everything sounded great last night, and most importantly, it was the tempo that we recorded it at!! Now he suddenly sounds like a chipmunk! I was so embarrassed! First I thought it was ProTools applying some wacky tempo or sampling rate, but then, I went and listened to the audio files outside of ProTools and it's the audio files themselves that are suddenly sped up!!! Has anyone ever experienced this??? Please for the love of all that's sane don't tell me I have to re-record this whole song.
Windows XP ProTools 7.0 LE Digi002 Further info - guitar/bass/vocals tracked last night through the Line 6 Toneport UX2, connected to the Digi002 via S/PDIF. Again, all tempos and pitches were fine last night when I shutdown. |

sounds like a sample rate problem. check setups, sample rate.
try switching it and seeing if it helps. |

Re: Holy ....! How embarrassing, please help!!!
there's about 9% difference between 44.1k and 48k; likely you've been recording in 44.1k and now are trying to playback at 48k, which means that every recorded sample plays back about 9% faster than intended -- so the problem is likely to go away if you open the audio files in a fresh 44.1k session. (Just consolidate before constructing the new session, as all your tracks must begin from the zero time in order to stay in sync.)

Re: Holy ....! How embarrassing, please help!!!
Thanks so much for the advice guys! I knew it had to be related to the sampling rate. I'll give these suggestions a try tonight when I get back into the studio.
Thanks! SP |
