Protools Cannot Communicate Error

While building my orchestral template I am consistently getting this message.

"Protools Cannot communicate with the selected playback engine device. Please quite protools reconnect the unit, and then relaunch protools."

Im not hitting play or recording anything im just creating tracks and instanstiating plugins.

My system:
Mac Pro 2013
OSX 11.6
Protools Carbon
Protools Ultimate fully updated.

It doesn’t matter what you’re doing. Pro Tools wants to see a viable playback engine while the program is open. If your Carbon isn’t plugged in or powered on then just choose the computer output as your playback engine to build your template. Assuming you’re not assigning any inputs out outputs.

This sounds like a bug that was fixed in 2021.12. Are you running that version of Pro Tools?

Hi Kyle,

Unfortunately, I have been running into this same issue myself since switching to my new M1 Mac Mini. Specs are as follows:

Mac OS 11.6.3
Apple M1 Chip
Pro Tools 2021.12

Has there been any update regarding the fix here? I'm assuming it would be unwise to upgrade my OS to Monterey.

Can you send me your case number?

Can you tell us a bit more about your network? Do you have any other devices on the AVB network? Do you have a VPN, Firewall, or Virus software runnning that may disrupt the connection?

It may be worth simplifying your set up to try and narrow down the culprit... perhaps start by disabling the other Network ports on your mac?

My case number is 04361672

I had an Artist Control also connected via the network but I have since removed it in order to try and isolate the issue. No luck. So the Carbon is officially the only Ethernet device connected to the computer (via the included cable). The computer only has one ethernet port. Is "disabling other network ports" method that you mentioned something unrelated to that fact?

I don't have any kind of VPN or firewall setup. I'm guessing it's something to do with the M1 compatibility for my specific setup since the problem has escalated since "upgrading" to the new machine.

OK that's good to know! Is there anything you can suggest I do in the meantime on my end? Are the issues related to anything else I may have access to changing? I desperately need to get back to my normal workflow.

Mark have not heard anything in ages about issue with launching a new session with different sample rate,, will this also be addressed in the next (.) release ?

Still having the issue with 2021.12
