Default Carbon connected to a Mac Pro 5,1

Hi

I know there is a thread on this, but I would like to know if anyone had any luck with connecting Carbon to a 5,1 yet.

I was able to install Catalina, and switch to a metal graphics card.
There is a card by Sonnettech (Solo 10G PCie card) I was thinking of installing, I emailed Sonnettech support and they said it should work.

Thanks, Tony

Hi Tony,

The Mac Pro 5,1 doesn't support AVB, unfortunately. For a list of Macs supported with Carbon, go here.

According to tech support at sonnettech this will give me AVB support to connect to carbon with my 5,1
If it doesn't they will let me return it. Will let you know the results next week.

Thanks for the reply

10.15.7 is the earliest supported version of macOS for Carbon, and that's not supported officially on the 5,1 (you can do it if you replace the boot loader, Hackintosh style).

This is very interesting. How do you find the performance? Also, I thought one of the limitations for 5,1 pro's was video card compatibility?

Thanks. I also have an Nvidia graphics card that supports metal, but you have to run it with the Nvidia web driver which is only supported up to high sierra. How are you getting around that?

Edit: never mind, I see that your card will run under OSX drivers while mine will only run under the nvidia web driver.

Still very interested to hear your experience trying to run Carbon!

The Solo 10G PCie card is arriving Monday, so I should know if it works with Carbon Tuesday,, if not time to get a trash can
I was able to connect to carbon with my macbook pro mid 2015 running Catalina, but it's not what I want to use.
I found that using my (2)192 interfaces connected to the two carbon adat outputs gives me 16 outputs via the d/a outputs from the 192, plus the 8 line outs from carbon. Got to keep my old HD system now for providing the 24 outputs into my console.
