Default New Quad Up And Running

Just a report from your long lost pal.

My new quad absolutely rocks.

Q9550, 4 gigs 1066 RAM, dual DVI graphics card, 250 OS Drive, 4x500 audio drives, in a nice 4U rack case. I had it built by a small company out of Pennsylvania. I'm just not a builder. I probably paid $400.00 more than I would have paid to build it myself, but I paid less than half of what this would cost at Sweetwater.

I haven't done an official DVerb test, but large sessions that would need to be at 1024 during mixing (with L3's and other CPU hog mastering plugs) on the master faders, now run effortlessly at 128!

My only issue (and it's a small one) is a dual display issue.

With my old displays/graphics card I would drag the main PT screen across to fill the 2nd display, and that'd be that. Sessions/PT would always open in this mode.

I can't seem to do that with my new setup.
When I open PT, I can't drag the main screen on to the 2nd, and have to maximize it. One I get a sessions properly sized, they'll then reopen correctly. But, when I fire the system up and load PT, I still have to maximize the PT screen first, then all is well. Sessions I've worked on open properly. Sessions I've not opened on this new system still have to be sized, as these are new displays (my old displays were 18" standard ratio, these are 22" cinema ratio).

Any thoughts on this?

But, I'm telling you, if my only issue is having to maximize the PT screen when I first fire up for the day, I've got very little to bitch about.

LE works on all four of my cores. I have had the occasion when it was running slowly and I checked and it said it was using only 1 core, but a quick re-boot fixed that. It's rare. Overall I am very happy!

After maximising to both screens, try quitting Pro Tools using the button on the Task Bar. Just right click and select "close". PT should open correctly from then on. You only have to quit that way once. That's the known solution for that particular "bug". It works for me, anyway.

Good luck!
