Default Running Out of CPU Power

I keep getting the "You are running out of CPU Power. . ." error message (-9128) and I'm not sure what to do.

I use the computer only for recording, and have just re-set everything. The hard drive has been newly reformatted and I haven't installed anything else on the computer, so there's nothing else that can be eating CPU power. I am running Pro-Tools M-Powered 7.0 with a Firewire 410 on Windows XP Professional Edition SP2. All I am using right now is one guitar track with amplitube 2, and Reason 4.0 Rewired with only Redrum and two synthesizers. I have a Pentium 4 1.9 ghz processor and 1.5 gigs of RAM. I trashed all my settings, followed all the instructions in the getting started guide and the general troubleshooting thread, and still no luck.

Any advice? I'm not sure what other info to supply so I just gave the basics and please let me know what else you need to help me out if you can. Very much appreciated!

Both of those plugins can be CPU intensive. They both have effects that will require CPU performance, and Reason is almost an entire DAW in itself.

Your 1.9ghz P4 is getting a little long in the tooth. The performance you describe doesn't sound too out of line for the power you have available.

Wait... Amplitube 2 and Reason rewired with Redrum and 2 synths? On a P4?
You are probably pushing the P4 to it's limits with Amplitube alone.

You definitely forgot one: the one at the end about posting the specifications of your computer with SiSoft Sandra. If you missed that, it's definitely possible that you missed something else. If you could, please follow those instructions and post your computer specs. That will make it easier for us to help you.

One suggestion I always make (especially on older, underpowered systems) is to "print" the guitar tracks and disable the amp simulator.

with a P4, thats a tall order. And PT is prolly the most demanding of most DAW's in itself.

Try using something like Reaper, and it should show substantial advantage.

Cheers!

Amplitube is a CPU assasin. Don't get me wrong, I love it, but it will beat the livin' heck out of any single core P4. Even on my old Athlon dual core, 3 or 4 Amplitubes and my system was screaming for mercy.

You might want to consider a system upgrade in the near future. It'll make your life a lot easier.

So I'm going to get a new computer, but I don't have all that much money to spend. I'm going to use it solely for recording, mainly running pro tools, reason, and amplitube. This computer looks like it might do the trick, but I'm not as familiar with the requirements of these programs as I used to be. I'll be downgrading it to XP. . .does this look decent? Thanks again for all the help.

FWIW, I saw an AMD Quad Core "barebones" system at CompUSA for about the same money. Not sure if they still have them, but if you're downgrading to XP anyway, it might be a better deal. I don't know about the PT compatibility of either machine.
