-6042 Error on Dual533-must read !!

Well all,

Get ready for some more bad news... I have one of the first Dual 800's and although this thing is very fast, it also fails the Dual Processor test. (Yes it is set up to current Digi standards.) 6042 is a good friend of mine now. I know Digi has yet to certify this box, but I figured I would give it a shot on my own. Everything works fine except the Dual processor feature. I am willing to wait for their solution, but for how long is still to be determined. We all have invested a great deal of money in this company, and it is my stance that they should really make this a priority. The only reason they haven't is that for most of us, we are so locked into Pro Tools and its features, we can't change to a different platform, so the need to spend the energy isn't there. Why did they certify the Dual 533 (which I have many of...)when they knew it had this issue? Digi, listen to us. We are tried of asking you to fix this. You have fixed other major bugs in your software quickly and efficiently, why can't you fix this one?

I thought that there WASN't a problem with the Dual 800's. I read (here or on another group) that people were using the Dual 800 successfully with Protools. I hate to say it, but it's good news for the Dual 533 people if the 800's don't work either. That means it's a continuing problem and not specific to the 533's and thus more likely to get fixed.

I had read that as well, and would be very interested to see how those machines are setup. From all the testing I have been able to do, this machine doesn't work with the second processor on. I have zapped the system drive, re-installed OS 9.2 (OS 9.1 won't work on the new machines) and configured everything to digi standards, but no joy. I just read that DP 3.0 is getting 128 tracks or more natively, with the Dual 800 -- DP 3.0 also supports Dual processors. I am not a fan of Digital Performer, but I will give it to them for making their software work with the Dual Processor. Isn't motu a much smaller company then Digi? Not as many resources available to them, but yet they can build software that uses ALL of the power of the new G4's. At least we know it can be done. Any of you out there write code? Maybe we can fix it ourselves.

I agree with Tim, news that the Dual 800 is bringing up the same problem is bad for 800 owners (sorry guys) but gives us 533 owners more hope.

Kam, one of our studios has just started using DP3 on a dual 800 last week. I've yet to see it, but the programmer there says it's awesome.

I have stirred the pot with this one... Been getting emails wanting to know my setup. For those of you out there who want to know here it is... Please remember that this is a test system that I am working on to decide if my other systems can be upgraded to these machines after digi approves them.

Dual 800
OS 9.2
512 MB ram
Mix 3 system
Atto Card EPCI-DC

Core Card PCI Slot 1
Mix Card PCI slot 2
Mix Card PCI Slot 3
Atto EPCI-DC Card Slot 4

I am running PT 5.1.1cs3 at the moment.
I have Bomb factory plugins
Digi's Reverb One
Access Virus
Focusrite D2/D3
Atto Express Pro Tools 2.3.2
an external 36 gig glyph drive.

The system is setup as per digi's requirements.

Again, this machine runs perfectly with the second processor off, but once I turn it back on, I get the same problem I have had with my 533's -- "All together now"
DAE Error -6042. In Digi's defense, this machine that has yet to be approved. There still might be a fix.

Wow.. strange...

If you search back 3 years ago on the DUC when the MIX Plus was just release you should find a topic about -6042 errors and the 9600/200MP.

I got one of the first MIX PLUS systems and tried for 2 1/2 weeks (with musicians waiting) to get it to work with my 200MP. -6042 errors EVERY time. At that time, the 200/MP was an approved Mac. After hashing it out with a senior Digi engineer, they took the MP off the compat list. I went and bought a 9600/300 and everything worked fine. The 200MP never made it back on the list.

It was as you can imagine a VERY difficult stressful situation. I can relate to you guys having problems.
