-6042 Error on Dual533-must read !!

My question:

Hi Digidesign,
i work also with a Dual533 and get the -6042 Errors like the others in the user forum. My Setup is a MixPlus + VintageCard + SampleCell2 + 2*888 + 882 and a ProMax Dual Monitor Card (also tested with ATI).
Running without CPU-Plugin the ProTools System runs like a charm but with it i get this bad -6042 Error. I want to use the second cpu by other software, but cause digi i can`t. Are you working on this bug ? Will there be a bugfix coming out ? Or should i buy another cpu ?
Please give me a straight answer. So i can sell my Dual533. And don`t tell me that Digi is working on an OS X version. I know that. I and many others want to work with the old System the next years !!!
So what is going on with that bugfix.

-Unfortunately, there has been no official word on this issue from out testing/engineering department. However, what can be inferred by this lack of dialogue cannot be positive. I would assume this to mean that this problem is currently not a high priority and would therefore (at the very least), not expect a fix anytime soon (or not at all).

If you want to use the second processor for other software, can't you make a separate extension set with the Multiprocessor extension enabled, and simply re-boot?

Walter..I feel for you. Not being able to use your dual machine is insanely silly. Why Digi can't addess this issue is somewhat mystifying. Dual processor Macs have been out for quite a while and they aren't going to go away. In fact we may very well see quads and more. I certainly hope they act on this soon.

We have a mix3 with a Dual 533 machine with Logic Audio as a front end. Logic supports the dual processor but we get these errors with DAE. Please, please Digi give us a bit of good news on this. I'm not the slighest bit interested in OSX for at least 2 years or so. It's gonna take an awful lot of work to get our systems (Logic, ES1, ESB, ESX 24 TDM, Spark, reaktor, Oasys, several TDM plugs and PT software) to run smoothly on OSX day in day out. OS 9.x is fine for now.

Here's my idea: On a certain day (say Wednesday 9-19) all Dual 533 owners call Digi tech support on the hour every hour and complain about the issue. Simultaneously on the half hour we call our local Digi reps and Sales people who sold us our systems and complain as well! AND posts to all user groups that we read. MAYBE WE COULD GET SOME RESPONSE! I as well would like to know if I should SELL my Dual 533 machine since support for it may NEVER COME. This would be a major pain when OSX/Dual support does arrive and we're stuck with a Dual computer that may STILL NOT WORK (with both processors on)!

We are aware of the problem with the 533 dual machines and at this time, the only workaround is to remove the CPU plug-in. We know that this is not the most convenient solution for those with other applications that take advantage of the multi-processor, and we are working on a solution.

So you're saying the original poster's (in this thread) response (directly from DIGI) is NOT correct that we shouldn't hold our breath for a fix from Digi. My concern is that the Dual 533 (as with all computers) is de-valuing daily and if the second processor will NEVER work with my Digi setup (D24 Mix) then I need to upgrade NOW (or soon) to cut my losses. If it WILL be fixed then I'll be happy with my present computer for years to come. Though I'd LOVE to be able to use the second processor with Unity DS-1 NOW.

Thanks for that reply Digi, we appreciated some official light on this. Please could you confirm that the fix is being planned for OS 9.x [img]images/icons/confused.gif[/img]
