Default Crackling/Feedback

I've searched around here and I can't find the solution to my problem. I'm playing back sessions I created and after 15 seconds or so a nasty crackling/feedback begins to happen. I'm using an MBox Pro with PT 11.1.2 on an iMac. I get the message, "your I/O setup has changed…" and "some bus paths have been made inactive." When I visit the I/O dialog, what am I looking for, and is that even the problem? Thanks in advance for any help.

You need to know what it was vs. what it is

Maybe try using the internal speakers for playback to eliminate the mBox

Sounds to me like you are playing back sessions that were created on a previous system/version of PT. Have you tried recording a new session and see whether same problem exists?

If it does, then it may be something to do with the Mbox....Can you hear crackling in Headphones AND speakers? Bypassing the Mbox as Craig suggests will verify whether or not it is the Mbox. Also, verify the speaker cables are good (is the crackling coming out of both speakers/channels or just one)?

If evidence points to the Mbox something to do is to change the Firewire cable that connects the Mbox and your computer - it may be intermittent. This is assuming the Mbox is connected directly to the computer and not daisy-chained to another device that may have gone to sleep. Another thing to look at is the power supply connector - those barrel connectors can go intermittent real easily.

Check your settings. The playback engine may be set too low. I sometimes get that crackling if I have my playback set to 256 or lower, depending on the size of the session. Set it to 512 or 1024 and see if that fixes it.

Also, I sometimes get crackling when I forget to unplug my wireless USB Internet connector device. I only connect my studio PC to the net when I want to upgrade something. If I forget to take that out, I'll get a similar crackling sound. See if you have something plugged in a USB port you don't need and unplug it and see if that helps.

Thanks for the replies. It appears it was a playback engine setting. I had it set at 256 and when I cranked it up it went away.
