Default Quicktime codec

The PT Ref guide for 5.3.x for Win XP says you should use the Apple DV codec for video encoded with Avid Xpress DV and NOT to use the Avid DV codec. The compato site says TO use the Avid DV codec. Anyone know which is right? Also, I would need to have both Quicktime and the coded installed for playback, does anyone know where the codec gets installed? Thanks....
