Default does mbox wavedriver suck for you too?

I use mbox wavedriver for playing back wav and mp3 on my P4 2.4 512mb machine and it's not very reliable. If I'm using windows media player and I open a folder or press start button the thing will stutter or freeze up. Same thing with winamp. The cheapo soundcard that came with the pc doesn't have this problem. Is it just me? or do you guys have similar experience?

I don't think it is the Wavedriver..I have a similiar problem sometimes with WMP, but the Wavedriver works great in SoundForge for example..have you tried updating your Media Player..

it's the windows media player 9 with all the patches. And it's not just with wmp, it happens with winamp 5 too.

I use it mainly for playback in SoundForge, but it seems fairly stable when I use WMP.

However, I do get this annoying intermittent bust of noise at the beginning of a clip when I'm playing something in SoundForge - slightly annoying, to say the least!

And my biggest complaint - I wish I could use it to record. Sometimes, it'd be easier to use SoundForge to record than PT. And yeah, I know Bazzle has some weird luck in this arena, but not the same for me.

Mine stutters as well in WMP and winamp. Then again, whenever I use that or ASIO my cpu is pegged to 100%...id rather figure that one out. Perhaps it has to di with the type of driver? MME instead of DX...though I could be totally off.

Yup. It really sucks. Tried it both with media player and iTunes.

it's kinda weird that my cheap soundcard that came with the computer performs better than my mbox.

It may work better with other "generic" software, but it doesn't work at all with protools, which is what the digi hardware was designed for.
