Digi 002-R Analog Outputs - Low Level/Distorted

I recently installed an analog summing mixer to use with my 002-R in my mix studio. When sending audio from a channel to one of the eight analog outs, the signal is very, very low -- hardly audible at all -- and very distorted and buried in noise. It's like this on all eight outputs. A little jiggling of the output cable will sometimes yield a result, but generally it stays very, very quiet and distorted.

At first I thought it was a problem with the summing mixer, so I borrowed a different one and tried -- same result. I tried all new cables, no luck. I tried listening to the channel directly, and it's still there -- very, very quiet (barely audible) and highly distorted what I can hear.

I'm matching levels correctly -- +4db in on the summing bus -- and having tried just about everything else, I'm at a complete loss.

This has me stumped... have you double checked the I/O window - hit default and make sure that all the analogue outputs are selected. Have you tried using the main outs rather than monitor outs? Are you using TRS connectors? Make sure that the faders are up in the Mix window also... option clicking the fader will put it at unity (0dB).

Prior to installing the summing mixer, how were you monitoring the audio out of Pro Tools?

You mention that jiggling the cable helps. Helps how? Do you get intermittent full signal?

And what do you mean by "I tried listening to the channel directly"?

I also am having the exact same problem. I think that it must be a hardware failure because the right channel distortion is coming from all outputs (tape out, headphone, etc.)

Using balanced cables on the outputs will kill the noise on the 002r.

Are you using TRS cables? stereo, not mono?

I have also tried all new cables without luck. I plugged in an MBox that I own and the problem disappeared, which makes me think its an internal failure. If anyone figures anything out keep us posted.
