controllers not showing up in Pro Tools Academic 7.3 (il)

I am trying to get frontier design's alpha track to work with my pro tools academic 7.3 (il) however under settings>peripherals>midi the only option under controllers is "none."

I checked in the digidesign>protools>controllers folder and there are three bundles, including the HUI MotorMix bundle. None of these show up.

(interestingly, i installed the CS5 update which is suppose to install a few other controller bundles but this did not happen)

Pro Tools recognizes the alpha track, as it shows up under settings>preferences, but again, there are no midi controllers to select.

Alpha track informed me this must be a PT issue, so I am here now trying to figure out how to troubleshoot this.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Does the alphatrack show-up in AMS as a midi device?

Yes, AMS does see the alphatrack. bright and clear, and with an icon.

an update: I re-installed pro tools and everything worked just fine. the alpha track is great! (except for the transport buttons- they take effort to depress)
