Re: 2018.4 Startup Crash
Ok- got it to work:
1) Trash all possible pref's 2) Startup in fail safe mode (shift on boot) 3) App store worked. - Update OSX 4) Update some utility drivers 5) Start iLok - works 6) Re-install PT 2018,4 - worked 7) Reboot 8) Start PT - And we're all good. Apollo works to. 9) System is really quick. |

Re: 2018.4 Startup Crash
We had same problem as manfromspace, when upgrading to 2018.4 from 2018.2 with High Sierra 10.13.2, we did a clean install of High Sierra and installed 2018.4 again, no good.
We tried un-installing 2018.4 and plonking 2018.3 on, but had iLok activation issue, in the end we have done another clean install of High Sierra 10.13.4 and now 2018.3 is working. For the record, Avid support were very unhelpful. |

Re: 2018.4 Startup Crash
Avid support? What do you mean? Never heard of such a thing in my 25 years of using Digidesign products....

Re: 2018.4 Startup Crash
Yeah. Only used support twice - before the expensive subscription model was put in place.

Re: 2018.4 Startup Crash
I found a fix. Had no idea I had to do this... I opened up iLok license manager, it immediately prompted me to update the software. Once I updated it, I had to click on my license and click "refresh". Not sure what this did, I'm guessing it's because my subscription rolled over another year? After that, I clicked on my iLok and clicked "synchronize". After all that PT 2018.4 opened without an issue. Very strange considering PT 2018.3 was working a few days ago without this update or having to refresh my license. Also no error about missing activation would come up, the program would just instantly quit and ask to send a report to Avid. Maybe someone else finds luck in this solution.

Re: 2018.4 Startup Crash
The fix from eddiejag seems to have done the trick for me. Can't explain how or why, but PT now opens no problem. Also, 2018.4 seems to be running more efficiently on my MBP (Mid 2012 2.9 i7) than any previous version. Many thanks to eddiejag!
