How to get Mac (iTunes/Spotify) to play through HDX

Hi everyone,

I can't seem to get iTunes or Spotify to play through my HDX setup.

I have Pro Tools completely closed, no other audio programs open. I select 'Avid HDX' from System Prefs --> Sound, but after a few moments it reverts back to whatever was selected before.

I've tried the workaround on the Avid website of opening Avid CoreAudio Manager, toggling sample rates to 48k and back, but no dice.

Any ideas?

I'm on a Mac Pro late 2013 (the black wine cooler type) with 3x HDX cards in a Magma Chassis over Thunderbolt. Everything from within Pro Tools plays just fine.

Have you launched Audio/MIDI Setup and configured the device and speakers there?

Yes. In the AMS, under Avid HDX, I have D1 and D2 for Front Left and Front Right assigned.

Though, all of the controls underneath in the white pane are greyed out:
