PT will ONLY operate with PT hardware. The hardware acts as your 'soundcard'. It's actually one of the advantages of PT - software/hardware integration - one less headache.

Just think of the Mbox, 002, 002R as a large USB or Firewire copy protection dongle. In other words, Protools won't work with out it.
