Pro Tools perpetual license update plan new

Hello,

i bought a pro tools 10 version in 2012 and was able to do updates until the update plane expired. I think the last version was 2018.xx. The version was also a EDU licence, which i got as a student.

now in 2022 i want to renew this licence. I found "Pro Tool Update Plan New" at Thomann, a german retail shop.

"For registered owners of a Pro Tools permanent licence version 9 or higher without a valid Update Plan"

Is it possible to buy this and use it for my expired EDU licence? Im not a student anymore for a long time, so the special EDU version of this product is not an option.

I don't want to spend 260 Euros for a download code thats totally worthless for me...

I can't imagine what would make this not work, but I'm not in a position to guarantee anything, just trying to encourage you. Someone with more authority on this will have to give you a clear answer on the edu thing.

I bought this offer myself, here in Norway while it was still on. This so-called 'reinstatement' offer came as a surprise to everyone and ended dec 31st. It seems some resellers have bought a stock of them, but no one knows when they will run out, or if Avid will ever offer it again.

I haven't used it yet, I plan to save it for when PT is Apple silicon native and I have a new mac. It has no expiration date. It comes with one year of updates/support. I think it's a good deal. Without it, I would have to buy a new perpetual license, $599, or go subscription.

thanks for the reply. So I contacted the retailer Thomann in Germany if my scenario is possible. They said to me that it is not possible to reactivate my Pro Tools EDU licence unless it's an update plan new EDU. This means that a edu licence is only useful if you are a student for lifetime...
They said its only possible to crossgrade from a EDU licence to a subscription or buy a brand new full licence.

Is there any second opinion about that? Thomann is still a reseller, maybe they're right or there have guessed it. Its always better for a reseller to sell something more expensive... but no offense.

I think they're right. That only full versions, not edu, qualifies for a reinstatement. That your two options are to buy a new perpetual license (non edu), or go to subscription, with a discount, perhaps, because you have the edu license. Be aware that the subscription only lets you run the latest version of PT. A perpetual will let you run earlier versions.

Would be best to start a support case to provide your info, but assuming I found the right account... it looks like you upgraded your license in 2016, and that bundle could be used for the upgrade/reinstatement you linked to. Please reply back with the case # if you start one.

thanks for the reply. I just started a support case, I hope that I've chosen the right one. A bit confusing...

My case number is 04350520.

I think there was something like an update or so in 2016, but this was so long ago for me to remember...

I have an update for you. I had a great email conversation with a specialist from avid. He said my scenario is valid with the product from Thomann.

It worked out for me!*

So if a EDU license expires, it can be reactivated with the "Update Plan New".
