Default insane theatrical trailer loudness specs

What do we have to do to finally get over that stupid 85 dBLEQ(m)???
I'm currently mixing an arthouse movie trailer where the VO is hitting fullscale all the time and integrated loudness is -14 LUFS, and I'm still not loud enough! I'm mixing at 4 here.

85dB leq(m) is the upper limit, there is no lower limit. You can make it lower if the material calls for it.
In this case it's best to compare it to other trailers to check your level.

Waves WLM Plus Loudness Meter is actually on sale right now for $149. I can't vouch for it because I haven't used but perhaps some other members can chime in and let you know if it's suitable.

I use it for Leq metering and it does its job. Didn't do a shootout with the 737 hardware, but so far nothing I mixed has been rejected, so I guess it's accurate.
For $149 it's a no brainer, really.

Compared WLM with the 737 hardware. WLM read 85 when 737 read 86.

Thanks for doing that!
Could you do maybe two or three more tests to get more data on this?

Did a handful of tests - result is the same, every time. Then again, I can't tell which of the 2 is right. :P

I used the Waves meter for a couple trailers and they all passed. That's all I can say, really.

737 hardware is very inconsistent. I'd go with Dolby Media Meter 2 or WLM. they both read identically every time. I was on the BSI committee thar developed the LEQ(m) standard. It's not in the slightest bit insane. What is insane is projectionists messing with playback levels.
