I'm not posting this to say you're doing anything wrong, I know how tedious trying to isolate problems is and I absolutely agree with the general sense of requiring stability. I'm just pointing out that Avid has its work cut out isolating all these issues - clearly they're not universal.

If I had to guess, I'd look at AAX generally for stability issues. It seems to have had a very troubled birth. Other platforms may very well be more stable for you given what plugs you use.

I think i have my issues worked out. Been stable as of late. Plugins. Waves.

I'd at least like to see smooth graphics for continuous window scrolling (stationary playback head)-so that I don't have to run Quartz Debug/Disable BeamSync. And I'd like better CPU/thread distribution. I'm not sure we still need the iLok when we're all on one flavor or another of a subscription model. (i.e., Avid System ID) like Adobe.

The more you overthink the plumbing, the easier it is to stop-up the drain.

Avid, I'd overhaul the website so that every page is TLS1.2 and 256 bit Perfect Forward Secrecy and GCM ciphers. You can probably stop a lot of piracy this way, if that is the concern, re: iLok, etc. SSLv3, TLS 1.0, and 1.1 are broken.

Yes no doubt we shouldn't have to choose and it should have both.....

But if you had to choose which would you pick....

Guys,I think stability and bug fixes should not be considered as features....
I mean we bought a piece of software and we DEMAND to work properly as it should...period!!
Now,as for features,Avid should introduce a new feature in every new release or so...That was what they advertise...
There are lots of things and improvements they can do...surprise us!!!!
But mainly,the program should work properly at least..

Much as I'd like new features, 12.4 and 5 (12.4 was the first version of 12 I used,) have been far and away the most unstable versions of Pro Tool I've ever used. Come to think of it, in 20 years of using DAWs, the only other time I've used one this unstable was Logic 8, the first version of Logic Apple screwed with.

I'm sick to death of crashing all day, then having to revert to a backup. This then requires restoring all my controller lanes in the MIDI editor and making all the automation lanes in the Edit Window visible again. Also, sometimes when restoring from a backup all my track heights have been reset. This has long since got REALLY tiresome.

So... Stability please. It's a complete mess at the moment. I don't for one moment believe it is system dependent. There are just FAR too many people having major stability issues. Excuse the sarcasm but if there's anyone from Avid left in the building... PLEASE fix Pro Tools.

Not that this in any way excuses the noises blasts, but you could use a combo of window configs and markers to get back to your layout faster.

I do use a Window Configuration but it doesn't recall all the stuff I listed above!!!

what Avid wants
- no more perpetual licenses - subscriptions only
- stock plug-ins no longer included subscription only
- charge more for subscriptions
- each new feature is subscription based
