Hi,
If you use either, I would really like to hear what you think. It'd be really helpful if you compare yours to some other ones. (like soft synthesizers) I can't get the demo, you know! Thank you. |

Um. I've got an XP-80, but have listened to the XV synths, and found them a lot clearer. Beautiful sounds. I may sell my XP-80 and get one of those (I have a few other keyboards already, so I don't need the "keys," just the sounds).
Sorry I can't help more than that. I am interested in hearing people's thoughts, though. I'm not interested in the Fantom -- too much like one of those all-in-one Casios.... |

With respect to the original poster, Go with the 5050 because it sounds better. Similar sounds, but the 5050 has a hotter signal and better D->A's. Cough up the extra dough and in the end you'll be glad.

Also, the software editor which comes with the 5050 is out of this world good and very intuitive. I have a Roland XP-30 and am also considering selling for a 5050. I would love the 5080 but even on Ebay, haven't found anything below $1600. At $750, the XV-5050 is probably the best bang for the buck for a bread and butter synth module.

I do! I do!
The 5080 is the cornerstone of my studio's midi setup (right next to the Triton) and it's an indispensable tool. It rocks. Buy one, don't look back, you wont regret it. It's my new motto. 'Ol 88' |

My 5080 setup:
5080 (digital out) > Roland R-Bus > 192 (AES in). Great sound. Highly recommended. Also love Virus TDM, Triton, Reason.

5080 is (almost) the only hard synth I use now.
...and I also have - among others: K2500, Microwave XT, micro Modular, MC505, etc.... My other sounds comes from Reason, Dynamo, Oasys. |
