Default XP+PT 6.4 or 98+PT 5.x for an old Dell and Digi 001?

I'm putting together a rig from an old Digi 001 I've got lying around to give to friend and I'm having trouble finding hardware specs for PT 6.x. The PC is a Dell with 1ghz PIII chip with 640megs of ram. I've got 5.x running on it now in Windows 98 and it's humming along but I'm wondering if I should put XP on it and run 6.4. There's a ton of features in 6.4 that I'd like him to have. What do you think?

Xp, to run smoothly, needs at least 512 MB RAM. So what do you think will be left for PT and VIs?

6.4 requires P4 or higher to run.

001/6.4 compatibility archive.

Well It had 98 on it and I got it running fairly stable. No horse power obviously so I figured this box is gonna be relegated to light duty no mater what so I might as well give it 6.4 so at least he can enjoy the much better interface, plugs and features in 6.4. So I reformated and installed XP SP3 and 6.4 and I'll be damned if it doesn't run a little better! Same track count as far as I can tell and the plug count is not great but it'll work if your resourceful. Reminded me of the old box I used to run the 001 on years ago. I'm really surprised it runs better but it seams too. I'm doing some stress tests now. 16 tracks at 24/48 for 20 minutes and then recording 8 more on top for 20 mins.
