How to reduce/eliminate breathings editing recorded voice?
Hello everybody
I need to eliminate breathings from audio recorded voices. And I do it one by one because I still haven't found the way to eliminate all of them with just one or two commands. Can you imagine how many times breath four or five people in half an hour? I'm exhausted! Thanks, Sotosu |

I forgot to tell that I do it six times a week, six programs each.

Sorry for the dumb question.. but.. did you try using an expander/gate/strip silence?

I cut VO by hand in ProTools or Peak. I'm sure the Waves plug may do some heavy lifting for a sung vocal but it's more efficient to do it by hand if one cares at all about the final result. Sometimes a fade is necessary and there is no one stop band aid for that. It's case by case.

It's definetely case by case and by its worst, probably note by note. I have a guitarist who breathes so heavily that sometimes it's hard to tell whether his breathing makes more noise than his guitar.
Stuff he plays is top notch so I just have to deal with it. But it can surely be tiresome to fix it sometimes.

the waves works as well as doing it manually 80% of the time. the other 20% you get your hands dirty. and, of course, you don't normally want to eliminate the sounds, in most cases, merely reducing them 3-6 db usually does the trick. really oughta try it sometime. in the case of the op, he's facing hundreds of these and the waves ver is a fast and quality way for most of them. e

Re: How to reduce/eliminate breathings editing recorded voice?
I think a Glock is a pretty good solution...you use it to get the singers to learn how to use "breath control"...I'm sure there's tons of information on the subject on the 'net...
I mean...did you ever hear Sinatra breathe? How about Elvis...or John Lennon...or Robert Plant? Since most of their stuff was pre-Pro Tools there was no way of cutting out a breath, so they obviously used proper breath control...
