PT doesn\'t recognize 002 - no standalone mode
I have a Digi 002 that will not go into stand-alone mode as well as Pro Tool's doesn't recognize the hardware when I open the application. Getting "Unable to locate Digidesign Hardware" message. The "Standby" message blicks as well. When I press "Standalone", I get the message "Enter Standalone mode? Yes No" . When I select "yes" nothing happens, but when I press No, the display goes back to "Standby". I brought the system about 4 years ago and I'm running Pro Tools version 6.4. It was working fine this morning, and I started hearing distortion. I power cycled the 002 and it never recovered (
Any suggestions? Sound's like I need to get the 002 looked at maybe??? Thanks in advance..

Re: PT doesn\'t recognize 002 - no standalone mode
I suspect a fault in the firewire chain. The first thing to check is the firewire cable. We've heard cases where it fails without any reason. This is the easiest and cheapest replacement. Second, check your firewire adapter in the PC. Is it functioning properly according to Windows Devide Manager? You might need to reseat it in the expansion slot if it is an add-on card. You may try to remove it from the device manager and then have Windows detect it again. Finally, do you see the little green led lit near the firewire port on the 002? There have been cases where people have blown out the port by plugging or unpluging the firewire cable while the unit is on. You might consider looking at this led first before the other suggestions.

Re: PT doesn\'t recognize 002 - no standalone mode
I'm not so sure - the fact that Standalone mode is screwed is more worrying.
Try unplugging the firewire and try to get into stand-alone mode again. Is there anyone that can test and repair 002s?

Re: PT doesn\'t recognize 002 - no standalone mode
Thanks for the advice... Well I think I've narrowed it down to either the firewire cable or card. When I check Device Manager, my 1394 Bus host controller had this error message "This device cannot start". I unplugged the firewire cable to the 002 and was able to go into standalone mode. I'm going to buy another firewire cable to see if that's the problem. I will update this thread with the results.
Thanks again for your advice.

Re: PT doesn\'t recognize 002 - no standalone mode
Ok - I replaced the firewire cable and got same results:
Green LED on when cable is connected, but 002 does not respond to being switched to stand-alone mode. Unplug cable and 002 will go into stand-alone mode. My question is this: Based on the fact that my 1394 Bus host controller had this error message when I go to the Device Manager - "This device cannot start" - would you recommend 1) me getting a new firewire card or 2) Taking the 002 in for service? Thanks in advance

Re: PT doesn\'t recognize 002 - no standalone mode
Quick question - I'm looking at another Firewire PCI card. Should I go with a 1394A or 1394B card?
Thanks

Re: PT doesn\'t recognize 002 - no standalone mode
Actually, this sounds like it may be a cable harness issue. You should contact Digi Tech Support by phone for further troubleshooting.

Re: PT doesn\'t recognize 002 - no standalone mode
Just wanted to update the list and advised that my issue was caused by the DC harness. Had harness replaced and all contacts cleaned and I'm back up and billing!!!
Thanks!!

Re: PT doesn\'t recognize 002 - no standalone mode
Do you have a 002 control surface? MANY of us with 002's have gone through this. It's endemic to certain production runs apparently. Something to do with the power connectors not getting proper contacts. I took mtne to shop here in Atlanta and was back up and runninh in 48 hours. The harness had to be replaced. As long as you are registered it should be a free fix no matter how long you have had it - factory's fault.
