Default ATi Chipset\'s? specifically RS480M

I'm looking at building a new notebook, my current one has a SiS chipset, as we all know isn't supported. although I do have protools running on it, it isn't as stable as I'd like.

does anyone know if ATi chipsets are working well with protools? I know all about centrino, but would like to stick to my athlon 64 chips.

anyone with any info, please let me know! thanks!

Hey technician,

Right now not a whole lot of people know that ATI makes motherboard chipsets except those that deal with work stations and servers.
This is their first venture into the consumer market.
The two or three boards that are out right now are small form factor that use the ATI Radeon XPRESS 200 which is the same chipset as RS480M.
These boards have lacking BIOS for OC'ing so I'm stuck waiting for a ATI Crossfire XPRESS 200 to be releassed by DFI,MSI,ABIT,GIGABYTE,and ASUS unless one of my friends sends me an Pre-release Eng. sample to test.
From what i've been told these are going to be awesome boards to OC but how good with ProTools is another story.
I'll put a post up as soon as I get one running or not with ProTools.

Matt

Currently ATI chipsets are untested and unsupported - and they are known to be problematic.

I just bought HP a1312n Desktop which has the "ATI Radeon Xpress 200" chipset and everything has just been a nightmare. Still troubleshooting though. This may have nothing to do with my problems. Still try to rule out WIN XP Media Center Edition, Service Pack 2, and the Pace Files update. This may be the icing though. I'll probably take this thing back.

Hello. I know this was only a month ago, but has anything changed with ATI chipsets, specifically with the Radeon Xpress 200?

Thanks,
Avi

Hi -I have Pro Tools working flawlessly on my Fujitsu-Siemens Amilo Pro V7010.

It has the following chipset:

ATI Mobility Radeon 9000IGP (ATI RC300ML / IXP150)

I initially had all sorts of problems, but when I recently reinstalled the system, I installed drivers for the Cardbus and PCI bus from the manufacturer's website, and Pro Tools 7 LE is now running with no problems and no major hardware and OS tweaks necessary.

More info on this link.

There's another Pro Tools user on this forum that seems to be running PT fine on his HP a1250n desktop, which has the ATI xpress 200 chipset. The user is MSG6794. And I believe another user with a computer with this chipset was having problems, but the problems were solved by not using the onboard firewire.

This gives me hope that the Aopen EZ482 box I'd like to get will work.

my laptop does not have onboard firewire - I am using a Pyro PCMCIA card with my Digi 002.
My advice is just to make sure you have all the specific hardware drivers from your manufacturer's website.
