MIDI problem in Pro Tools 10.0.1
Hello!
I need some help... I have used Pro Tools for many years (and music Technology for most of my life) and I am stuck with this one. My mobile Pro Tools 10 system (running on a Macbook, OSX 10.6.8) will not accept ANY MIDI input (sort of!). In fact, it's weirder than than just no MIDI in- -I load an instrument, (or MIDI track) record enable it and hit record. -The instrument cannot be heard and the MIDI input meter on the track does not move. -However, the notes I am playing do record and will play back! -I cannot play any software instrument. -I cannot control any instrument from the knobs and sliders on my keyboard (Cakewalk A500pro) I have tried the MIDI input on my soundcard, a seperate MIDI interface and the USB MIDI on the A500pro. All MIDI inputs from WORK perfectly on Mainstage and Ableton on the same laptop. If I am doing something stupid or missing something I'd love it someone could help!! Needles to say I have checked all the MIDI input, MIDI filter pages... I've even tried a fresh install (10.0.1) This used to work fine then just stopped!! Thanks! |

Re: MIDI problem in Pro Tools 10.0.1
MIDI problems will drive you nuts!
I don't know what is going on but I will take a stab at it. You seem to be looking at MIDI input problems but the symptoms look more like MIDI output problems. Note that if a MIDI track has an output assign problem, you will not see any activity on the MIDI track meter but the track will record MIDI data & you can play back that data(just like your situation). So my guidance is to take a look at the output route on your MIDI track & see if there is anything wrong there. For the instrument track, make sure you have enabled the instrument routing view so you can see what is going on. That is in VIEW/MIX WINDOWS VIEW/INSTRUMENTS. ihth

Thanks for the reply... :)
I will have a look when I get home, although I'm pretty sure it's routed correctly I could be wrong.. Marc |

Re: MIDI problem in Pro Tools 10.0.1
Ok, checked everything on the MIDI i/o routing and still nothing!
The fact that the MIDI plays back the instrument that is inserted shows that the MIDI output is correctly assigned... Grrr. :) |

One more thing to suggest. Please check to make sure that you have MIDI Thru checked. It is on the Options menu. If unchecked, it would produce the results that you are experiencing.

Re: MIDI problem in Pro Tools 10.0.1
Did you trash AMS prefs and checked back if all your external Midi/USB devices show up correct ?
