Default no installer only .aaxplugin

Hi all !

How to make ProTools recognize and make useable a plugin when only the .aaxplugin folder, but no installer, is provided

Trying to get Kiive Audio Warmy EP1A (free) plugin to work on my PC. Works well on my old MAC system, but PC... not so.

Dropped the .aaxplugin folder into the plugins folder with all the rest of the .aaxplugin folders:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Avid\Audio/Plug-ins

PT does not find the plugin. No protest. No nothing...

Trashed Prefs...

Same-same. PT does not find the plugin. No protest. No nothing...

What am I missing here ?

Win 10 21H1. PT 2021.10

/T

[edit: actually unkJE I had some bad typos in my examples here caused by sloppy copying and pasting stuff, now corrected, and I had missed that the OP had put stuff in the (x86) 32-bit plugin folder to start with]

A vendor who does not package their plugins in an installer is maybe telling you something important.

Maybe you can ask the plugin developer for help or documentation?

But note as unkJE makes clear: you installed the plugin in the 32-bit file path "Common Files (x86)" not the 64-bit one "Common Files".

Still stuck...

What is actually in the plugin you installed? Did you installed a Windows plugin or a Mac one? Does it contains a 64-bit or 32-bit executable or both? (Pro Tools 11 and later you need 64-bit)

e.g. VariFi.aaxplugin is an AAX-64 only plugin (i.e. x64 executable) since it contains no actual Win32 binary file....

$ tree VariFi.aaxplugin

Pro Tools 2021.10 is 64-bit – so move all your AAX Folders from their current 32-bit location to their correct 64-bit location - as per the Warmy Read Me:

C:\Program Files\Common Files\Avid\Audio\Plug-Ins

Within this Plug-Ins Folder, create a Folder and name it:
Klive Audio

Extract the 2nd download listed:
Warmy EP1A V2.0.3 (PC) (ZIP, 37 MB)

Open the AAX Folder – cut:
WarmyEP1AV2.aaxplugin
and paste it in your Klive Audio Folder

Thx... But...
C:/Program Files
folder is not showing up in windows explorer.

Seems something is fishy here. What?

Well...

All the 64 bit plugins on my PC seems to be put in the "Plug-ins" folder under "Program/Common files/Avid/Audio" rather than "Program Files". I put the Kiive Warmy EP1A plug here and it now shows up in PT

All the 32 bit plugins seems to be put in the "Plug-ins" folder under "Program (x86)" path.

So it seems OK. Prolly a "translation" from english to swedish.

...But now there are some (mulitple) plugs installed in both paths, for instance the 304C.aaxplugin. Which one is used by PT?

As already explained Pro Tools 11 and later use 64 bit plugins (under "Program Files" path on most Windows systems.).

That is all they use. 32 bit plugins get installed in case you want to run Pro Tools 10. You don't need them.

The reason to check inside a plugin to see if it is 32 or 64 bit is to make sure it is put in the correct location which only could be an issue when lazy plugin developers don't bother to provide installers.

Got it !
Thx. PT user since PT8 then on mac. On PC since PT 2018. Never co-installed PT 10.

I thought PT could make use of both 32 AND 64 bit plugins. But I guess I simply have not been vigilant when running installers to un-check 32 bit whenever choice possible in the installer. Or perhaps the action of Avid-Link. Will try moving away the 32-bit folder (1.64 GB) from the path, and see how PT reacts ....

Thank you all.
