The list is highly relevent.. 'cause those apps are the only ones which would have the Digi hardware listed. Your list however looks okay.

Search for the file dalwdm.sys on your system and tell me which version it is. Also, do you have any other sound cards in your system - if so, disable them.

It's version 6.4.0.138

I still don't get it. With all other sound cards disabled media player and anything else looking to play from direct sound will not play back on anything. In fact, media player tells me there is no default sound driver selected.

So what you are saying is that when you go to control panel->sounds and audio devices then select the audio tab, your digi hardware is not listed in the "default device" dropdown?

Make sure that no other application, or the system is using the Digi driver. The XP WaveDriver is not multiclient. Are you logged in with Admin privledges?

Rail
Yes, I'm the admin on this machine and I have system sounds turned off so there shouldn't be anything using the sounds.

I keep going back to the main issue which is that digi 002 does not apprea in the audio tab anywhere.

Well.. that's the problem on your system. If you knew that it would work.

So you're saying if you have no other apps including IE running and go to Start->Settings->Control Panel->Sounds & Audio Devices and the Audio tab.. you have no Digidesign listed hardware.

Exactly. However, if I go to the hardware tab, the digi 002R is there.

Just because a device appears in the "Hardware" tab in the "Sounds and Audio Devices" in the control panel does not always mean your device is installed with all the features.

Any and Every device that is installed (whether firewire, SCSI, IDE) that has a Device Type being "Sound, Video and Game Controllers" or "CD/DVD-ROM drives" will appear there.

What we know is that the firewire driver is working/installed--not necessarily the WDM driver.

What to check...

Double click on the Digi002 Rack in the "Hardware" tab (the one that you do see). Under Digi002 Properties click the Driver tab. Click Driver Details. What is the file version and location of
dalwdm.sys. (it should be in [SystemDrive]\[WinDirectory]\System32\Drivers...
where SystemDrive is the hard drive on which WinXP is installed and WinDirectory is your Windows directory.

I have 6.4.0.138 installed and it works fine.
