AND...For whoever brought up DVD- Currently, DVD-R is the only one supported by most modern DVD home players (the kind not in your computer). DVD+R is not.
<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">Are you sure about that?

I was told that +R was much more compatible and reliable.

Best regards,

Hi! My bad. Initially, DVD-R was touted as being most compatible. I have not read up on this since late last year. At that time, DVD-R was still being recommended over DVD+R. If I could smack those people for saying that now, I would love to. Guess I will have to settle for smacking myself for listening to them instead.
Back then, almost any site you went to for DVD recorder advice, proclaimed DVD-R as the winner in the compatability fight. The Pioneer drive (A04 at that time) was top-listed everywhere. I got one of the first Sony all-compatible models, and it was miserable with XP then. Sony has since fixed it. Knowing this now, I would go for a DVD+R instead. Faster burn times over DVD-R as well. Ooops. Thx for opening my eyes

Hey all!

I just bought some upgrades for my PC. Here they are

amd xp 1700
ABIT NF7-S 2.0
Thermalright SLK 900
CORSAIR MEMORY XMS Extreme 3200 512MB
Thermaltake Smart Fan II
artic silver ceramique 7.00

so now some of you are wondering, Why go with a amd xp 1700+ when you already have a 2200+? Well my friends, if you dont already know, AMD has put the 1700 back in manufacturing because of popularity. AMD didnt have any older 1700 chips so they took a 3000+ chip and downgraded it to a 1700!!! These new 1700+ can Overclock all the way to 2.4-2.5 Ghz without wtercooling! Best thing about it is that I paid only 59.99 for the chip!!!!

If you want to buy one, buy it from here

http://www.svc.com/lqtamdxp17tb.html

HURRY THEY ARE LIMITED AND ARE GOING FAST!!!!

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">Where is there proof of this? I'd like to buy one if what you say is true, but I'd like to see some more documentation on it. Either other message boards, user reviews, etc.

And since they "downgraded" a 3000+ why is it marked as a Tbred? Wouldn't it still have the Barton core?

I need some help buying a new computer.I am thinking about buying a Gateway only because I called Digi Design after noticing that Digi has a Gateway 500L listed the web site for use with a 001, and they list the 4L for use with the 002.I just bought a 002 about 1 week ago from Guitar Center on Long Island and they have a 30 day return policy so I need to get a P.C. real fast so I can tell if the 002 is right me.I went to the nearby Gateway store to find out about the model 4L and I found out the it was the specs. were no where near what the Allenstien machine calls for. Anyway so I called Digi and they said that that machine (the model 4L )was good enough for the 002 , and that if I wanted a machine with more power and more like the Allenstien machine that I should have Gateway build it for me .So I went to Gateway and these are the specs for 2 machines, so please if they are not good enough please let me know. Machine #1 Gateway 500S= Pent 4- 2.4,512 Mb 333Mhz DDRR RAM,160 GB ultra ATA100 7200 rpm hard drive w/ 8 MB,CDRW 48/24/48 ,Mid tower case w/ a 160 watt PSU,Windows XP home,128 MB NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200G with TV out graphics accelerator 56K PCI data/fax modem, a 17 inch CRT monitor, I didnt get it with a firewire port because there brand isnt one that Digi recomends.Machine # 2 Gateway 500X Pent 4- 2.6

Ok, now I have a few more questions:
1. Can I have a XP 2100 wich is 233FSB into a ASUS 400FSB board? If yes... what kind of RAM should I use? 400? 233?
2. Wich MB to get? ASUS? MSI? EPOX?
3. When you choose a CPU, what's the difference BTW OEM & RETAIL BOX? Just packaging????
