Really basic question about the original 192
Sorry for the basic question, but I know that there are some weird "rules" about them. Here's my question.
I'd like to have an analog 192, and I'd like to have running at the same time: 8 analog inputs 8 digital inputs 8 digital outputs. Can I do this all at once? I do NOT need the 8 analog outputs going at the same time. NOW FOR QUESTION #2 OK. If the answer to #1 is yes, then I wonder...can I sell off the card of 8 analog outputs or do I need to keep it in the 192 to make the 192 operate? I know the 192's have some rules about what cards you MUST keep in at all times, even if you're not using them. Thanks in advance for your help on this! |

Re: Really basic question about the original 192
16 Channels of I/O can be used at one time. So yes your scenario will work. Not sure of question #2. Pull it see what happens. Only rule I know of is that the 4th slot(expansion) can accommodate either AD, DA or Digital cards. The others are set as is.

Re: Really basic question about the original 192
1) yes, the 192 can do 16 in and 16 out at one time
2) I guess you could, it's the digital card that is the linchpin pin of the box personally I'd leave the DA card, could be hard to sell missing it in the future, and it's a lot of screws and where would you get a blank plate to fill the hole

Re: Really basic question about the original 192
I can do 32 I/O out of my 192.
Just connect a ADAT Bridge to the legacy port and then you will have another 16 channels. my .02

Re: Really basic question about the original 192
Here is the link to the 192 I/O manual. Pages 13 and 17 deal with which cards are necessary.
http://akmedia.digidesign.com/suppor..._v80_56068.pdf I have a 192 I/O with only two cards installed: the A/D and the digital. Bays 2 and 4 are empty. I have read posts that say different things than what is published in the Digidesign manual, but went with what it says. |

Re: Really basic question about the original 192
It really can only do 16I/8O or 8i/16O simultaneously, without another interface.

Re: Really basic question about the original 192
True it can't do 16 in and out of analog w/o extra converters but there are 16 valid I/O paths
