Default Presonus Monitor Station....does it badly color the sound?

Some reviews I've found online suggest that the Presonus Monitor Station is mostly flat and any coloration of the sound is barely noticeable if at all.

Just wanted to ask my fellow PT users if anyone has had similar experiences.

I'm using a Digi 002 Fader interface. I now desire to switch easily between different speakers, as the Presonus would allow me, and the monitor out pot on my 002 has been noisy when turning it for years now. it needs to be cleaned or replaced.....but the Presonus would make that unnecessary.

Thanks, guys for any info/experience with the Presonus Monitor Station you may have!

In my informal shoot out of the Presonus and the Mackie - they seemed fairly similar in changes - the Presonus seemed to have a high shelving cut that the Mackie didn't display.

For me functionality was the reason to go to a monitor station - I have direct paths to my near fields from the interface bypassing the Mackie Big Knob when necessary

ugh. thanks for the info! I suppose everything has a color to it. I've just heard that the big knob is pretty bad.

I appreciate the response.

I wouldn't necessarily 'trash' the Big Knob - keep in mind your monitoring environment has a significant impact on what you hear - these tools add a functionality that you bypass when critical listening is paramount. I did a 16 hour tracking session yesterday that I couldn't not have managed multiple DAW's, Multiple playback systems and talkback without my Big Knob.... love it

Best

i have one, very handy unit.

i would say the benefit of being able to instantly switch between 3 sets of monitors far outways any slight "color" added by the monitor station.

My Central station is one of my favorite pieces of gear. I use the spdif out of my digi 003 for my control room outputs into the digital in of the CS.

I run my cue mix through it as well to use the talkback.

You can use a pedal for the talkback at the same time as the button on the unit (and the remote unit too)

A handy trick is that you can get a 1/4" headphone splitter (y) and add a few pedals for talkback. I use that so a client / writer can have they're own pedal to talk to the singer / guitar player/ etc.... so I can engineer instead of holding the TB button for them

It also has a Toslink input that I use from my Mac Pro for iTunes, internet, etc.

Very versatile piece!

It's more expensive than the Monitor Station (and I lucked out when I got mine from Sweetwater, because there was a deal to get the remote control for free), but it's totally passive, extremely versatile, and is just a truly useful gadget.

If your budget permits it, it's well worth looking into.
