Default HELP!!! mezzo nightmare!

On one of our Systems, we have been having MAJOR problems.Everytime we try to backup more than 1 session at a time, mezzo crashes and reads 'error type 11'.It does the same thing when we use a different hard drive. We have tried another exabyte drive, and have flushed the P-RAM etc. Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance!!!

Cheers

What version of PT are you using. IF it is PT 5 you will need to ugrade your Mezzo version. The newest version is 3.66. I was told when I was using 3.1 that it would not do PT 5 very well. The new version seems to be working pretty well.
Talk to Monica at Mezzo. Go to www.mezzogmr.com and use the contact support link. They are ususally pretty helpful.

Hope this helps

Typicaly when Mezzo is having severe problems it is an indicator that your system or your drives or *both* are unhealthy. Make sure you are using the correct OS and Mezzo rev...archive and *verify* your sessions (one at a time if you have to) to clear your drives and consider a low level format on *everything*. rebuild your sys...good luck

If Mezzo crashes 2 things to try:-

1. Check date and time and check hard drives with Norton to make sure there are no date problems.

2. Reinstall Mezzo software, no need to de/reauthourise.

Hope that helps

I know you don't want to hear this, but you should replace Mezzo with Retrospect.
Backing up your data should not be an area where the term "Major Problem" is used, especially three years down the road when you need to restore something and you can't find the authorization disk that will ONLY run on an ancient OS for that old piece of **** Mezzo software due to backward compatibility issues!

(OK, I vented, feel better now).

Yes, learn from my personal hell, use the software with the largest install base, Retrospect (after all that's why we use Pro Tools, because everyone else uses it).

All--
We made the switch to Retrospect for all major archiving (AIT tape drives). Mezzo had cool features, but was VERY unreliable for multiple drive restores and the GMR staff has been unable to help. On some restores, PT sessions would have entire tracks with no audio and PT would not even "ask" where the files were. Sometimes the files were right there in the audio folders, sometimes they weren't. We spent nearly $2k on Mezzo for our 3 systems and we have found it almost impossible to get anyone at GMR to take us seriously. Retrospect cost us about $250 for everything and has been TOTALLY bulletproof. (NOT idiot proof, though). Using Retrospect required a slight change in our backup procedures, but it has let us sleep at night!!
PS -- We still use Mezzo "in the background" for another level of safety, at least until some new crazy upgrade procedure makes it too much of a hassle to get a current version!!
