Default coreaudiod (Not Responding)

Morning All,

I've been having a number of problems with my new PT LE 8 rig (the specs of which are below), but most seem to be ironed out now; However, as I've been trouble shooting I've found that the activity monitor shows the item "coreaudiod (Not responding)" all the time.

Now I can "Force quit" this item, and it automatically restarts - but I'm wondering if that is / has been at the root of some of the problems.

I've been solving the below issues systematically, but following the tips posted here, but I can't recall reading anything on this issue.

System Specs:

PT LE 8.0, 003+ Rack Factory Bundle, DV Toolkit 2
Mac OS 10.8.5
G5 Power PC 2.7 Ghz, Dual Core, 4.5 GB Ram

Problems I've had:

Unable to update 003+ firmware (now fixed)
Unable to operate 003+ off of rear firewire 400 ports (Now "avoided" by running off of front firewire port)
Problems with RTAS errors and buffer size (now fixed)
Very unresponsive system - to play / stop (now fixed)

Regards,

Grant

Hello Grant.
I had some trouble w Digis coreaudio manager too, and got help here:
http://duc.digidesign.com/showthread.php?t=252472
I'm not shure if it was essential for the solution, but note that I checked ALL the nine options in the Protools Helper app.

Thanks Ben,

I've tried what you said, and alas it seems to have taken me back a step as PT is now very unresponsive to play / stop commands.

The problem is not with the Core Audio Manager, but a process in the activity monitor called - Coreaudiod - which seems to be very unstable, and even when I force quit it, it generally goes "red" and "not responding".

Any further thoughts would be much appreciated.

Grant

Apologies all...

My search results have been far more successful this pm and I find that this is bug that has been previously covered but never solved in this forum:

http://duc.digidesign.com/showthread...ght=coreaudiod

2 years and one month on another thread.

I wonder if this is the problem of the sluggish system at all then - perhaps I have another problem lurking.

I'm sorry, I misunderstood.

Anyway, the PT helper app, just deletes alot of preferences and setup files so that's probably what you're seeing: PT will rebuild plugin list at startup, hardware setup will be reset and so on. Maybe you can get the responsiveness back by going thru all settings. RTAS engine at one prosessor less than max, smaller HW buffer size and so on.

I hope it works out.

Smile Re: coreaudiod (Not Responding)

Hi,

I've had audio conflicts w/intel iMac and PT 7.4.2 since week one, about a year now. part of the concern was "coreaudio not responding" and always listed in Red in Activity Monitor. Initially I thought it was normal as I had installed my MBoxMini into the system and disabled(?) the "coreaudio"... I really didn't know my iMac very well @ the time.

Months later, by accident, I found a forum post, not this one, that dealt with a related issue but I read it many times and I thought I'd take a chance and do what they were discussing. I don't remember exactly, but what I do remember follows:

Go into the Mac HD Library and find in the Digi folder a folder or file named "HAL" and when you do, take it out of the sub-folder, move it, but leave it in the main Digi Folder. Well, I thought I was gonna have a coronary because I really didn't know what I was doing, but... it worked. At least the "coreaudio not responding" in red turned to black and the 'not responding' part was gone.

Did that fix all my issues... NO, but I do think some were cleared-up and anyway I felt better with the red warning gone. Good Luck!
