coreaudiod (not responding)
Hi there,
The Digidesign CoreAudio driver seems to be hanging the coreaudiod process on my macbook pro. If I remove Digidesign CoreAudio.plugin from /library/audio/plug-ins/HAL and reboot, the process runs fine. When I put the plugin back again and reboot the process goes red and says "not responding" in Activity Monitor. I've flipped back and forth a couple of times and the behaviour is quite consistent, the process only hangs if the Digi driver is there. It is red as soon as I boot up too before I open any software. Oh and I don't need to have my 003R plugged in either. Funny thing is, everything seems to be working OK, sound is fine when I'm using the laptop on its own, if I use it in the studio with the 003R, PT is fine and the core audio driver fires up every time if I launch iTunes etc. Specs: Macbook Pro, Intel Core 2 Duo 2.4GHz Mac OS X 10.5.4 (9E17) Pro Tools 7.4.2 (no cs) 003R I'm tempted to go with "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" but it bothers me a process is hanging and I figure it'll help Digi if I can provide some feedback on an issue that seems to plague other users. Digi, any idea?

Re: coreaudiod (not responding)
the same in my macbook pro. I do agree that we should inform DIGI about this situation.

+1 I've noticed this too since 7.4.2 with 10.5.3-10.5.5

Quote:
I've had this issue ever since about LE 7.4.2 and OSX 10.4.x Although it does not seem to cause any issue to Pro Tools performance, or any other audio functionality or apps I have installed, it is a Digidesign related bug. I have uninstalled Pro Tools numerous times and the issue goes away after restart but ALWAYS returns once PT is reinstalled. I really did expect this bug would have been solved with Pro Tools LE 8 rewrite. Although, I did find this while googling: "Just because the Activity Monitor shows it as not responding does not mean there is a problem, especially if it is a daemon (pronounced demon) that you are monitoring like "coreaudiod" is. The d at the end stands for daemon. In this case, "Not Responding" means it is not stopping what it is doing to report to Activity Monitor." Last edited by Crying Freeman; 01-06-2009 at 07:01 PM. Re: coreaudiod (not responding)
My MacBook Pro crashes a number of times a day, generally when I'm quitting a program that was accessing the audio from an 002 or MBox.
All sources point to the coreaudio driver. It would appear that a number of apps install coreaudio, including PT and Hear. Hear has released a fix for this problem but PT has not. Can anyone shed any light on how I can possibly stop this from happening? Daily crashes get really old...feel like I'm using Windows 3.0 or something. :) Thanks |

Re: coreaudiod (not responding)
I'm seeing this too. When I force quit coreaudiod, it regenerates itself and a few minutes later it is red and not responding. It doesn't seem to affect anything, but it should be corrected so as not to leave anything to chance in PTLE/Mac performance.
