The only definition we have for this error is as follows:
-Too much virtual track "switching" - Try to eliminate some virtual tracks (combine tracks or bounce) to play the session.

-What are your system specifics?

Since the move from 5.0.1 to 5.1 24 bit sessions are throwing this DAE error up rather frequently.."DAE unable to complete this operation. One or more audio tracks is too dense near the current location" this is using a b/w 350 G3, a mix system, and OS 8.6. Today this is happening with only 2 stereo tracks on a 4 bar loop.
Any ideas? Thanks
Irene

I'm still getting this error from time to time on sessions with even only a couple of stereo audio tracks. It's really frustrating as once it starts up it doesn't go away.
I've experimented with memory allocation and the DAE buffer but no good.
Help please!

Aren't you supposed to be on OS 9.1 for PT5.1? try that first.

Well there seem to be plenty of happy 8.6-5.1.1-ers on the DUC and no one else seems to be having this problem. But in my case maybe you're right. Thanks for the suggestion, any others?

could this result from the ATA drive bus on older Macs? (beige G3 desktop for example?) i've been using a nice 7200 Maxtor 20 gig (split into 2 partitions) for audio with a PT24 + Farms. this errors has been the only real problem. it tends to show up only on certain sessions. as far as troubleshoots, i completely replace ProTools system partition and transfer<->/rebuild audio drive directory. i consolodate as much as i can and try to keep tracks asigned to voices. meanwhile, other sessions with all voices on auto and plenty of region bits looped all over will function just fine.
maybe it's the XLR8 ZIF G3 500 upgrade? (was a 266)

after a lot of searches, it seems like most people having this problem have older Macs. is this about right?

Felix,

-Make sure you are not accessing both partitions of the drive simultaneously.

-What format utility did you use? We recommend using the Apple Drive Setup utility for all ATA drives.

-Since we do not test CPU accelerators, install the stock CPU (disable all extensions associated with the accelerator) and see how your system performs.
