Record monitoring
Hi and thanx in advance. When recording, I monitor with a D8B. I don't monitor via software because of latency. I would like to hear the playback but not the input when the track is armed. Is this possible without disarming the track?I am going to and from the D8B via lightpipe to a digi002. I am new to PT's. Please forgive my ignorance.

Re: Record monitoring
If you select:
Options > Low Latency Monitoring Then you won't get any noticable latency when tracking. With the 002 you only have the option to monitor through software. The MBox's have hardware monitoring.

Re: Record monitoring
I can't speak for others but personally, when I'm tracking, I can't tolerate the echo especially on guitar or vocal tracks. It's the main reason I use a real console instead of relying solely upon the software mixer. Honestly, PT's should have more flexible options in regard to record track monitoring no matter what interface used. The recording aspect in the most important aspect of any DAW until the recording portion is completed. Once the recording process is complete and only then, does the other components become more important.

Re: Record monitoring
Latency has never been an issue for me while tracking, even back in the old P4 days, recording with H/W buffer at a 256 setting.
Now with a Quad, I track at 64 most times, which no human on the planet can hear. Never once has anyone complained of latency in a tracking situation in my studio, and I've had hundreds of clients over the years

Re: Record monitoring
Can't speak for 64 samples buffer, never tried it, but when tracking my own vocals, ANY latency is a pain.
You hear your own voice inside your head, add the monitoring in the headset, and you actually get a kind of phasing effect. Even "Low latency monitoring" doesn't do it for me. I've been using no latency external monitoring since I started w/PT. (Sorry, can't help the OP)

Re: Record monitoring
How have you been accomplishing no latency external monitoring? That's exactly what I'm trying to do but also still hear any regions on that track for punch ins.

Re: Record monitoring
MBox has a minimum hardware buffer size of 256 samples.
I used to have 128 with my Digi001.
