Default Disc Allocation

When I create a new session, or even update an old session, I go into disc allocation and make sure that the files are going to the proper drive and folder. When I do this it automatically saves a "copy of" the song onto my C drive. I then have to manually copy and paste those audio and fade files into the correct drive and song folders. What am I doing wrong? This is very frustrating.

Why are you using your C drive?
Why even save a copy in the first place? (unless you want to backup and then again why use your C drive?)

The default folder structure of PT sessions is very good IMO. Creating all files needed for the session in the session folder (like D:\my session) and all audio files for that session in its respective audio files folder (like D:\my session\audio files).

You can restrict where files can be recorded to (or played back from) in the workspace window by setting the drives you don't want to use for audio to T (transfer). If you make sure only the audio drives are set to R (record) your default allocations would not be created on other drives.

I'm not using my C drive, that is my whole problem. The only thing I have on my C drive pertaining to pro tools is my pro tools application. But when I save (not "save as" or "save copy"....just save) at the end of a session, for some reason it is creating a folder on my C drive that says C:\copy of "name of song".

Has this just started happening, or since the PT8 upgrade or when? Should we assume you had no luck with the suggestions mano111 gave you?

It did just start when I upgraded to PT8. I am not at my studio right now, so I will have to try mano111's suggestions when I get home. Thanks for the quick responses.

Ok, my problem seems to be when I consolidate a track, it automatically saves a copy to my C drive. I just went to my C and changed it to transfer instead of record. Maybe this will help.
