Digi 002 Main Outs vs. Monitors, which do you use?

Hey All,
Which do YOU use to monitor/mix sessions and why?
I've been using my monitor outs into a power amp--to passive speakers but accidently plugged into the main outs a couple weeks back and wow, whatta difference in volume/presence. I'm back to using my monitor outs but wondered...what are the intended uses of both the monitor and mains?

The Outputs are mirrored.

I use my main monitors on my Monitor outs as it has the handy Volume knob on the interface.
I use the Outputs 1+2 to my ref monitors which i turn on when i want to hear what a mix or production sounds like on smaller speakers.

This output can also be used to send to outboard gear if the other 6 are used, just take care.

The monitor outs and the spdif out go to my Central Station, and the main outs with the 6 other analog outs I use to route outboard stuff.

You know what I wish, was that the main outs and monitor outs weren't mirrored, it would be way more flexible for routing signal IMO. Specifically I wish solo would go to just the monitor outs, and not have the main outs switch over to solo, like a console can. Does anyone know of a way to configure this???

Hi there; have the same question which I still don't find completely answered. had my passive monitors plugged to the Digi002 MON outputs; just got a pair of active monitors; can I plug them to the Digi002 Main Outputs and get the same result in terms of sound quality? I wanted to compare sound of my pasive and active monitors. thanks in advance!

The best way to do this is to use a monitor switcher. Like Third Eye, I also use a Presonus Central Station. Not only does it do that job very well, it also allows fast switching between several sources(like my motherboard audio output, a CD player and my Motif-so I can play it without Pro Tools or even the computer). It also adds a handy talkback mic
