PlugIns turn Mono tracks into Stereo Automatically

Hi,
I was at a friend's studio (PT20/Mac) and when I put Addictive Trigger insert on a mono kick drum track, it automatically converted it to a stereo track. When I removed the insert, the track magically went back to mono. It did this when ever a plugin could choose if it would be mono/stereo, meaning a discreet mono plugin kept the track mono. But any plugin that is listed mono/stereo would always change a mono track into stereo. Like I said, when that plugin is removed, the track goes right back to mono. I scoured Google but couldn't find anything remotely close this. I'm thinking it must be a weird default somewhere but I couldn't locate anything in Preferences.

This is the way its supposed to work. And it doesn't change a mono track into a stereo audio file. It simply does whatever the plugin you select is meant to do. Example, insert a Mono>stereo delay plugin. In bypass, it sounds(and acts) like a mono track. Enable the plugin and you can set different echo settings for left and right, creating a pseudo-stereo effect.
