Do any of you guys know what the upgrade path for the "music production toolkit" is? Post a link or point me in the right direction please. Digi?

First, you have to Download and install 7.1 (I would recommend all of the CS updates as well)

Then you have to Purchase the Music Production Toolkit. (Cheapest price I've seen is at www.altomusic.com)

That is not my question. Let me try to be a bit more clear. Once you own the M.P.T. what is the upgrade path to 7.x-8.x and so on. Do you have to upgrade the toolkit everytime? Will there be toolkit upgrades released everytime a new version comes out? Or what?

I googled looking to see if I could find "music production toolkit update" and found nothing for you. Perhaps they don't update it often.

The Music Production Toolbox is relative new (1-3 months?). There has not been any updates yet so we don't know how Digidesign will update these. I suspect it will be a free update for the next upgrade then a nominal upgrade fee for the next version and continue to alternate from free to charge to free to charge... That is unless they include a significant change to the toolbox contents or change the bundled plugins significantly. In that case they may charge more. The bottom line is "I have no idea." As with any software you buy, you never know if you need to pay for the upgrade or not, and you don't really know when the next upgrade is anyways. If you want/need it, buy it, or wait until you do want/need it and then buy it.

I know there have no updates so far. I just wondered if in the future there would be a specific toolkit update for each . release of ptle? Or would we have to wait for toolkit releases? And I guess we will have to update the whole toolkit not just the next version of ptle. Is that right? Digi?

I'm going to bring this thread back for a minute if you don't mind. I never really got a good answer.

I guess any "CS" updates will not apply to the toolkit right? When 7.2 and on and on comes out are the toolkit users s.o.l. or will there be toolkit updates for every release of ptle? (that is including "CS" updates) What if the next version is real buggy. Will there be "CS" releases for the toolkit?

I realize some people don't know the answer but what are other toolkit users planning on doing in the future? Just keep useing 7.1.1 untill they release another toolkit version?

Is it true that once you are in "toolkit land" only "Music Prodution Toolkit" updates will enable you to stay in "toolkit land"?

Digi, if you are listening please chime in and try to clear this up.

I don't have the official answer and I doubt you'll get that until it comes out, but you probably won't be S.O.L. Music Production Toolbox will probaly work fine with the next version of Protools or they provide a downloadable cs patch to make it work. It will probably be free to owners of the current Music Production Toolbox. They'll probably repeat this process until there is a major change in either Protools or the Music Production Toolbox, at which point they might charge a fee. To some will be a reasonable fee. To others it will be an outrage that they must now pay for an upgrade. Nevertheless that is the upgrade fee. I'm guessing that, at some point, the Music Production Toolbox might get incorporated into the Protools suite and a significant upgrade fee will be charged. Owners of the Music Production Toolbox might get a slightly lower upgrade price than those that don't own the Music Production Toolbox (probably not $495.00 less however). The contents of the Music Production Toolbox may also change over time with the addition or removeal of some plugins. Some functionality provided by the Music Production Toolbox may move into the standard version of Protools (I suspect the MP3 Option would be a good candidate for this). Since the 48 Stereo and Mono tracks is the biggest draw for most people for the Music Production Toolbox, that might take longer before Digidesign "throws it in" for free. Would you if you can charge almost $500.00 for it and people are willing to pay? The DV Toolkit may not follow this exact evolution since it does address a separate user base.

My post may be a little cynical, a little too philosophical (and a little tongue in cheek), but I think it may actually be a pretty good picture of what is to come. My point is that you can't keep worrying about the future upgrades to Protools and the Music Production Toolbox. Get what you need and can afford now and make music.

Thanks for your input. I allready own the MPT and I'm not worried about paid upgrades and I'm also not worried about always having the latest and greatest version either. I know how the process works I have been using ptle since 03 with 5.1.1. I am just curious what's next for toolkit owners?

In that case, we can only hope Digidesign will reply. They tend to not comment on the future.
