So what's everyone's favorite control surface? Why?
I've just started looking at purchasing one, and am interested in HUI, Pro Control, Mission Control, and Motor Mix, but am interested in hearing about all of the available surfaces. Thanks! Dave |

The HUI and the MotorMix are both very cool and very useful but the Pro Control is really the best sollution. Three reasons...
1. It's ethernet. You don't get the annoying "Pro Tools lost communication with HUI" message, your automation information is far more accurate due to the speed of data transfer, your meters are more accurate, and the controls respond faster. 2. It's expandable. You can purchase fader packs to expand it up to 32 faders plus you can expand it with Mission Control for surround encoding. 3. It's packed with profesional features such as the channel matrix and an analog section ready for surround mixing. I'm saving my allowance as we speak. Mounted in a 'blank' fader pack, comes.
A trackball mouse (4 x buttons) A joystick panner (surround sound panner) A Qwerty keyboard A bank of 70 macro 'hot keys' as one press shortcuts for multi key commands. (user definable) Computer on off switch Power distribution for Pro Control & monitors to keep cables tidy. A bank of 7 song locate hot keys with a scribble strip for wax/chinagraph pencil "old school" identification. In short, Mission Control dispenses with the sliding table with a keyboard and mouse under the mixing surface. The panner works with Smart Pan Pro for surround sound. The hot keys are v handy. BTW it works without Pro Control too, on AMIII ,001, PT24, Mix. I have typed this on one! Jules From Gallery, check digi development partners |

I just picked up ProControl plus one Fader Pack. Simply amazing. Took me all of about 10 minutes to hook up and get working. Very responsive and fast. As good as any pro digital board I've worked on.
I was in the "why do I need this?" camp before I bought it. Now I've switched to the "I can't live without it" camp. Okay, so I'll be paying for it for the next decade... |

Hi Snake,
What analog functions does the ProControl have? Thanks for everyone's advice! Dave snake wrote: 3. It's packed with profesional features such as the channel matrix and an analog section ready for surround mixing. |

My 2 cents worth... Love the PC. Sounds great, faders are simply amazing, expandable (not to be taken lightly), quite intuitive. Lotsa dedicated buttons, and it looks cool!

OK, but can you take the huge armrest piece OFF the front? my space is limited and I would put ProControl on top of a long piano keybard so wondered if the faders could be used without the armrest??

I think the pulley system for the moterised faders is under the armrest space. So it can't be scrapped methinks.
Jules. I need to build a low table for it. Jules |
