Default Leaping from OS 9 to OS 10.5.3

Hey folks,

I've been using OS 10.3.9 and Pro Tools LE 6.4 for a while, but I've got a ton of old Pro Tools sessions that were only saved in OS 9 and Pro Tools 5.1.1. Will I be able to open these 5.1.1 sessions (esp. with Q10, D-Verb, etc.) once I convert to OS 10.5.3 and Pro Tools LE 7.4.2, or should I first save those 5.1.1 sessions as Pro Tools LE 6.4 sessions? (And, any special problems to anticipate re those old versions of the plug-ins?)

Thanks!!

EQ2 and Dynamic 2 are less than supported, otherwise I think will you be OK on plugs (a full list would help)

save as using PC compatibility for the session and double check that it puts the .pts extension on the session file (it will help when it gets converted to a .ptf)

convert SD2 files (if you are using SD2) to wav or aiff files which ever you want to work with from now on

Thank you, Craig F., for your response.

I have some follow-ups, if you have a moment.

(1) SESSION FILE SUFFIXES. I am a bit confused, as I've never -- not in OS9 (PT LE 5.1.1) or in 10.3.9 (PT LE 6.4) -- used suffixes on my session files or my audio files (in fact, I normally don't name the audio files; Pro Tools does it automatically!).
When I look at my sessions in the Finder (via Command-I), their "Kind" is described as "Pro Tools Sessions" no matter which OS I was using. Also, I have never seen a checkbox along the lines of "Hide the Extension." Do I need to revise my OS9 and OS 10.3.9 session file names before upgrading? And. what is the difference between PTS and PTF? Please advise!

(2) PC COMPATIBILITY. What do you recommend I do regarding both pre-existing OS 9 and OS 10.3.9 sessions, as well as new sessions going forward with 10.5.3, as far as PC Compatibility? Do I need to go back and change anything, or is it too late? What are the pros (aside from being able to use it on a PC) and cons of using PC Compatibility?

(3) SDII: Ditto re SDII ... can this designation be changed, and MUST it be changed, in order to use my older sessions in OS 10.5.3? What are the advantages of using .BWF/.WAV or AIFF? I've always used SDII....

(4) PLUG-INS. In OS 9 I used the following:

The ones I marked with two esterisks (**) are the ones I use a lot.
The ones with one asterisk (*) I use less often.
The others ones I use rarely/sparingly.

---Waves: Q10**, Q4*, Super Tap*, Metaflanger, Audio Track*
---Digirack: D-Verb**, Compressor II**, Limiter II*, Expander/Gate II, Gate II*, EQ II, Dither, Mod Delay II*, DeEsser
---Digidesign: Maxim*
---Bomb Factory: 1176, LA-2A, Moogerfooger Lowpass, Moogerfooger Ring Modulator
---D-Fi: Lo-Fi*, Recti-Fi*, Sci-Fi*.

Additionally, in OS 10.3.9 (Pro Tools LE 6.4), I use Bomb Factory BF76, and Renaissance Axx, and I use the plug-in instrument/sampler MachFive**.

Thanks for any answers you might have!

Vogger
