Inputs Randomly Disconnecting

Why would Pro Tools 10 SE change inputs spontaneously in the middle of a session? I installed it on my Windows 8 pc, after a few days I couldn't find the interface no matter what/where I looked, so I installed it on my Macbook Pro and I thought the same thing happened, only to find out that it switched to the built in input and there's no way to change it back to the interface.

This program is overwhelmingly frustrating. I just want my interface to stay plugged in when it's plugged in and work. $300 and I can't even use it because the program does whatever it wants. :/
