Just found a refurbished iMac i7 that ships with SL for $250 less than a new one! Since I am buying applecare anyway, this is a great deal!!

For those of us who only us PT as part of our job, the new features in Lion can help with productivity, particularly Resume, Air Drop, and the new Mail. I work for a non-profit, so having a PT (or general AV) computer AND a laptop is not an option right now. If Lion isn't that big of a change, then it should be easy to have PT ready for it.

Lion is gimmicky, nothing compelling at all.

No reason to upgrade!

Hi Barry,

I´ve got the System 6 on floppy discs
No gimmicks at all.
You can have them for... let´s say 20 bucks

Understood, but are they THAT critical that it a few weeks is going to make or break the deal, considering how many apps and plug-ins are still not Lion compatible?

For those with new machines that only have Lion I can understand the urgency, but for everyone else - we've been through this cycle before, several times. There almost always are issues in a new OS, or various apps on the new OS, that crop up and require a fix to function properly. I guess I'm more the 'play it safe' and let things settle down a bit before upgrading.

Honestly...

...we´re talking about the computer industry, where hardware are outdated before we´ve even exited the music store with our latest goodies. So if you´re in that business, you have to be UP TO DATE!!!

Not necessarily true. Some of the most prolific, respected and well paid producers I know are definitely NOT on the latest and greatest - most are using Intel Macs from a few years ago.

Sorry for my bad english. What I meant was that I think if you´re among the biggest manufactures, you have to be up-to-date. Pro Tools is not exactly a freeware.

Air Drop only works on new Macs. The new Mail does the same things as the old with a different layout. Nothing to increase productivity. Resume is just an auto save.

If you need to load Lion, just make a partition and load it there. That way you can keep all the old and examine the new.
