Default New 12 Core. Reinstall OS from scratch or not?

Tomorrow a new 12 core mac pro with 12 gigs of ram arrives.

So am I being paranoid?

I plan to reinstall the OS from a retail snow leopard disk purchased about 6 months ago. And then would combo update to 10.5.6.

Mainly because I am using a different drive for the OS than the one that ships with the computer. Or should I just clone from the original disk to my new drive? And If I choose to reinstall is it best to use whatever disk comes with the machine? Is that disk even capable of a custom install or is it just for restoring what was there. . like a clone would be?

This new machine is ONLY for music/PT9. So my thinking is that I can eliminate the extra languages and printer drivers and all that jazz streamlining the OS. FYI the 1t drive that comes with it will be used asa backup drive and in it will be a 2 seagate 7200.11's, one for OS and one for storage then a sample library drive and an raptor for audio.

ANother question regarding drive order. I plan on
1. OS
2. audio
3 sample library
4. storage

I assume there is no difference in performance in drive slots but maybe someone knows more than me...

So Clone or reinstall? Any drive order/slot different??

Thoughts.

Cloning should be fine. Drive order should not matter at all. Try to control all that horsepower

You're looking at completely new hardware... a clean, fresh install is needed. Back your data up and format that drive.

I received my new 6 core a month ago and I didn't have to reinstall anything. Everything is there and ready to go. No install needed. Apple has installed the software for you. You can remove anything you don't want like languages.

If you want to use a different drive as your system drive, clone that drive and I'd put it in position 1. Might be easier to remember what drive does what if you put it in the #1 position.

The four drive slots have the same performance, connected to the SATA bus.
